Theatre and Music Faculty Receive Coveted Grants from Arts Council of Indianapolis

FRANKLIN, Ind. - Franklin College associate professor of theatre Gordon Strain and adjunct music professor and Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra cellist Geoffrey S. Lapin have been awarded Creative Renewal Arts Fellowship Grants by the Arts Council of Indianapolis.

FRANKLIN, Ind., - Longtime Indianapolis Star editor and columnist Russ Pulliam, Emmis Communication founder and chief executive officer Jeff Smulyan and retired Scripps Howard Newspapers vice president and Franklin College trustee Dan Thomasson became the inaugural class of Ben Franklin Junto Award winners. The trio was honored at the 2013 Franklin College Pulliam School of Journalism Dinner on May 10.

FRANKLIN, Ind. - Franklin College will host its 2013 commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 18 in Spurlock Center Gymnasium on the Franklin College campus. Dr. Steven Cohen, a 1974 Franklin College graduate, will be the keynote speaker and will receive an honorary doctor of science degree. In addition, James E. Hoover will receive an honorary doctor of science degree posthumously.

INDIANAPOLIS - Four students, an editor and TheStatehouseFile.com took home awards Friday night from the 34th annual Society of Professional Journalists "Best of Indiana Journalism" awards gala. Franklin College seniors Samm Quinn and Adrian Gillaspy and sophomores Timothy Cox and Sandie Love won 1st Place in the Coverage of Government and Politics category at the SPJ event.

Music Department to Host Spring Instrumental and Choral Concerts

FRANKLIN, Ind. -The Franklin College music department will present the Spring Choral Concert Saturday, May 4 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 5 at 2:30 p.m. in Custer Theatre located in Old Main. The Spring Instrumental Concert will be held Tuesday, May 7 at 7 p.m. also in Custer Theatre.

Johnson Memorial Hospital, Franklin College Partner for Annual Golf Outing

FRANKLIN, Ind. - The annual Hugh Andrews Memorial Golf Outing, a fundraising event for Franklin College, will be held Thursday, May 9 at The Legends Golf Club in Franklin. The event will begin with registration and lunch at 11 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at noon.

Indianapolis 500 Official Vehicles Rolling Onto Campus

FRANKLIN, Ind. - Several Indianapolis 500 Camaro Hot Wheels Edition convertibles will roll onto the Franklin College campus on Thursday, May 2, at approximately 11:30 a.m., when a group of 500 Festival board directors gather. The Camaros will be parked in a drive encircling the Fitness Center (accessible from Grizzly Drive) until approximately 12:30 p.m. The public is invited to view the cars and take photos.
