Dr. Shafer has been a member of the Franklin College family for more than two decades. He holds a bachelor's degree in fine arts, a master's degree in counseling psychology and a doctorate in clinical psychology. In addition to counseling and teaching on campus, he runs his own consulting company and facilitates training workshops across the country.

Shafer enjoys taking on home improvement projects, gardening and traveling with his family. He continues to sing and act with community theatre groups as well as be involved in the Franklin community by working with the elderly and volunteering for Youth Connections, Humane Society of Johnson County and Franklin Heritage.
