Park was born in and attended schools in Whiteland, Ind. He received his bachelor's degree from Hanover College, master's degree from Syracuse University and doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1951-53. Park then taught high school from 1953-54 in Milan, Ind., junior high school from 1954-55 in East Syracuse, N.Y., and high school from 1956-58 at Center Grove High School. He joined the Franklin College faculty in 1958. His positions at Franklin have included serving as the college dean from 1965-79, academic vice president from 1969-79, provost from 1971-75, acting president from 1975-76; and acting academic vice president and dean from 2000-01. He received emeritus status in 2003. Park has been men's golf coach at the college since 1979.

He and his wife, Ruth, were foster parents to about 40 children between 1975 and 2002. He is active in the First Presbyterian Church of Franklin and has sung in many ensembles, both sacred and secular. Park enjoys spending time with his family.
