Dr. Baird completed her undergraduate education in sociology at the University of Akron and her graduate work in sociology at Purdue University. Before joining the Franklin College faculty, she also completed a Thoreau Teaching Fellowship at the University of Maine.

Her interests in divorce and family dynamics have influenced her research and teaching experiences as well as her involvement with community agencies dedicated to providing affordable services to families in need. More recently, she has combined her teaching, research and community-service activities by creating opportunities for students to conduct much-needed evaluation research projects for local social service organizations. These service-learning activities allow students to apply their classroom knowledge in service to their communities.
