Tumey is a Franklin College graduate, class of 1963, and has spent more than 40 years in teaching, coaching and athletic administration. She is a member of the Franklin College Athletic Hall of Fame and past president of the Alumni Council.
She is a past recipient of National Track Coach of the Year honors, the Indiana Athletic Administrator of the Year Award, the National Federation of High Schools Citation and the Regional Athletic Administrator of the Year Award. In the 1980s, Tumey coached the first American female to win a medal in the pentathlon in the Deaf Olympics. She also set a world record in the 100-meter hurdles.
Tumey has been a keynote speaker as well as clinician and facilitator at numerous clinics, workshops, luncheons and dinners. She has served on four North Central Association evaluation teams, including one at Franklin College.
