James H. Johnson earned his B.A. and M.S. degrees from Butler University with majors in English and secondary education. He has had a lifelong interest in schools and the art of teaching. He taught at Franklin Central High School for 32 years, serving 12 years as English Department Head. He also helped inaugurate WRFT, a student-operated FM radio station. Before completing his college education, he served in the United States Army. He also worked as a radio announcer in the 1960s and 70s. For over 20 years he has been a regular columnist for the Johnson County Daily Journal. He and his wife Nancy are members of the handbell choir at Grace United Methodist Church. They also are active in volunteer activities at the President Benjamin Harrison Home and WFYI public broadcasting. Jim is also a tour guide at the Indiana Statehouse.
