Edward Chikwana was born and raised in Zimbabwe and moved to the US in 2002 for his graduate studies at Portland State University in Oregon, but has been at FC since the fall of 2008. He teaches general & introductory chemistry, as well as quantitative and instrumental analysis. His research is focused mainly on using reaction kinetics to study oxidation mechanisms, mainly involving sulfur-based anti-oxidants. He is also involved in a project to make FC more eco-friendly by recycling the used cooking oil from the cafeteria into biodiesel to power the college lawn mowers.
Before coming to the US, Edward graduated top of his class with a BSc in Math and Chemistry Education from the Bindura College of the University of Zimbabwe in 2000. He taught high school chemistry and math briefly at his alma mater before becoming an assistant lecturer at Bindura University of Science Education, also in Zimbabwe. Prior to coming to FC, he taught at California State University - Chico, and has been involved in the chemistry summer program at Portland State University since he was awarded his PhD in 2006.
Edward enjoys watching soccer and is a big fan of the FC soccer teams and is always present at all their home games. He also enjoys hiking and travelling around the country with his wife, Vimbai.
