IHE FAQ's
- Are the Intercultural Honors Experience (IHE) and the Intercultural Living-Learning Environment (ILLE) the same thing?
No. The ILLE is open to ALL students who are interested in learning more about other cultures. The IHE is a competitive academic program to which students must apply. Students in the IHE are encouraged to live in the ILLE and are required to participate in the ILLE activities.
- When and how do I apply for the ILLE?
When you receive your housing application, check the box indicating that you are interested in the ILLE. This does not guarantee that you will be placed there, but it will be taken into consideration.
- When and how do I apply for the IHE?
The Fall 2009 applications are due on October 9, 2009. Only freshmen, sophomores and juniors enrolled at Franklin College in the fall 2009 can apply.
- If I successfully complete the requirements of the IHE and receive a grade of 'B' in the spring seminar, am I guaranteed scholarship funds to study abroad?
Yes. We will be giving a minimum of $30,000 in scholarships every year. The amount you receive will be determined based on your need and that of the other applicants.
- Can I use the funds for any travel program?
Scholarship funds must be used for an approved semester-long program. Approved programs all have an international studies or leadership focus. Students who are unable to get away for a semester, for instance those in Education, can ask to use the scholarship funds for a minimum 10-week travel program.
- If I don't get accepted into the IHE during my freshman year, can I apply in my sophomore year?
Yes. While the program is targeted toward freshmen, up to five spots can be filled by sophomores and juniors.
