Camp Directors

  • Steve Alford was Mr. Basketball in 1983 before being the Most Valuable Player four consecutive years at Indiana University.  Steve was co-captain of the 1987 NCAA National Champions.  He also was a starter on the 1984 U.S. Olympic team with Michael Jordan and Patrick Ewing.  After a runner-up finish in the NCAA Division III tournament as head coach at Manchester College, Steve moved to Soutwest Missouri State University where he led the Bears to the school's first Sweet 16 national tournament appearance. Steve then led the University of Iowa to seven consecutive winning seasons and two Big Ten tournament championships before accepting the head coaching position at the University of New Mexico in 2007.

  • Sam Alford was a high school coach in Indiana for twenty-nine years.  During that time his teams won seventeen sectionals, six regionals and one semi-state.  He was the head coach of the 1985 Indiana All-Stars.  He was an assistant coach at Southwest Missouri State University for three years prior to moving with son Steve to Iowa. Now retired from full-time coaching, Coach Alford devotes much of his time to the organization of each summer’s Steve Alford Basketball Camp.

  • Kerry Prather is the winningest basketball coach in Franklin College history.  Coach Prather was voted conference coach of the year in 1989, 1992 and 1998. The Grizzlies have won four conference championships and four conference tournament titles.  They have competed in the national tournament six times, with one Elite Eight, one Sweet Sixteen, and two second-round finishes.
