Clarissa Falls Cottages:
This is a ranch 10 minuets from San Ignacio.  It gets its name from a river that runs  through the property that  has some rapids.  During the rainy season or when hard rains develope, these rapids turn into falls.  They are no Niagara Falls, but are fun to play in after a long day in the heat.  There are around 9 or 10 huts that are available to rent to the public.  Do not expect the Holiday Inn.  The living quarters are unique huts with palms as the roof and large bamboo shoots as the wall, but very fun and adventurous.

Xunantunich:
The Mayan ruin is located Northwest of San Ignacio, the largest town in BelizeXunantunich, which means Stone Lady in Mayan terms, stands 135 feet at El Castillo which is its highest peak.  This overlooks a large part of Belize and the border of Guatemala.  It also looks over the many other mounds in the site that were used for sacrifices, living quarters, and trade.  This once prosperous village was formed in the classical period and fell around 900 A.D.  Today the site is open to the public to explore and climb to the top like the Mayans once did to worship to their Gods.

Cahal Pech:
Cahal Pech was Mayan for The Place of Ticks.  It is located on a hillside overlooking San Ignacio.  This site is smaller than Xunantunich but still unique in its self.  It still has mounds that have not been stripped and excavated.  In one of the rooms, there is some original red paint that was used by the Mayans.

Belize City Zoo:
The Belize zoo has a wide variety of animals that are found in the country.   You can get close and experience the animals better than you can in the US.  They specialize in the country's large cats. Like their jaguars, pumas, and panthers.  They also have a wide variety of birds and monkeys.  But, for future warning don't get too close to the tapir or you may just receive a golden shower.

Ambergris Caye

Snorkeling:
We had the chance to snorkel some of the Caribbean's best sites while staying at  the island.  Off the coast of Belize is the world's second largest barrier reef.  We made stops at Mexico Rocks, Hol Chan, Shark & Ray Alley, Tres Cocos, Underwater Caves, Coral Gardens, North Cut, Soft Coral Gardens.  We also made a death defying night snorkel at Tres Cocos to catch all the late night marine life. Each stop was unique in itself.  Besides the night snorkel, the  best place was  Hol Chan.  The Belize government set this channel up as a marine reserve.  This is to keep the reef looking as the way it should be.  No one is allowed to touch  or remove anything from this area.

Island Fun:
After long days at sea there were no better ways to relax than to sip on some Belikins.   There were a few favorite hangouts that we could walk right up to from the beach.  Fidos, Wet Willys, Coco Nuts, Crazy Canucks are just a few.  The locals were very friendly and loved buying drinks for the females in our group.  One night after our beach BBQ, we attended the world famous Chicken Drop.  This is where they drop a recently laxative fed chicken onto a board with the numbers 1 to 100 on it.  And you can buy squares where you think the chicken will take a number 2.  There is a lot of strategy and skill involved and only the wise win.  Frische, or as on the trip Bleeder, was one of the lucky ones to win $50.
