Adventures in Guadalajara, Mexico

Winter Term 2009

A fountain in Los Arcos de San FranciscoWe met every day at Los Arcos de San Francisco; it was our meeting place when class started and finished.  Los Arcos de San Francisco is a church with a small plaza.  The arches were the outer limit of the plaza with a small water fountain in the center.

In Guadalajara, there are many churches and temples.  The majority of the culture is Roman Catholic.  All of the churches were big.  Inside of the churches, there were many vibrant colors and statues of Jesus and Mary.A Catholic Church

A Nativity SceneThere were many nativity scenes in Mexico.  The Mexican culture celebrates El Día de los Reyes which is the Day of the Wiseman.  Families buy la Rosca which is a sweet bread.  Each person of the family takes a turn cutting the bread; if they have a small doll of Jesus in their piece, they have to throw a party in February.

Japanese GardenThere were many gardens in Mexico.  The gardens contained many beautiful flowers, plants, rivers, and bridges.  At the Japanese Garden, I saw a young woman celebrating her Quinceañera, which is her 15th birthday. A Young Woman celebrating her Quinceañera

A waterfall in MazamitlaThe first weekend of our adventure in Mexico, we visited Mazamitla.  It is a town in the mountains.  During our weekend, we stayed in cabins and rode horses.  At the end of the riding trail, we saw a small water fountain.  It was very pretty, and the water was very cold.

For our final weekend in Mexico, we visited Puerto Vallarta.  It is a town along the beach.  The resort we stayed in was the Meliá; it was very nice.  We lay by the pool and on the beach.  The weather was very warm and sunny. My roommates and I in Puerto Vallarta

I enjoyed my many adventures in Guadalajara, Mexico.  I learned about the Mexican culture and the city.  My Spanish improved a great deal.
