Jessie Ellen Wolford Endowed Scholarship


SCHOLARSHIP BACKGROUND

Jessie Wolford devoted her life to teaching. She graduated from Franklin College in 1918 and began her career at Concannon High School. Miss Wolford taught English, French and Latin at the school until her retirement. She earned a library science degree at Indiana State Teachers College (now Indiana State University) and added school librarian to her responsibilities at Concannon. She also earned a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin. Miss Wolford was president of the School Librarians' Association of the Indiana State Teachers Association and president of the Terre Haute Branch of the American Association of University Women. She held a variety of leadership positions in literary societies and church and social organizations. This scholarship was created by her nephew, Thorp Wolford, to further her memory.

SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS

The award is granted to deserving and needy students as selected by the financial aid office.
