Library Instruction Request

The Librarians at Hamilton Library offer a wide range of instructional options for your students. We can teach a single session tailored to meet the information requirements of a specific class assignment as well as introduce students to basic library, research and evaluation skills. We can also integrate multiple library meetings into your class, introducing graduated concepts and re-visiting student's research needs. Lastly, we offer a standard library orientation tour designed to introduce your class to Hamilton Library and orient your students to library resources and services.

Library instruction is most beneficial for students who are working on a research assignment and are made aware of the requirements of that assignment before attending a library instruction session.

Learning Objectives for the session (check all that apply):

Create effective searches using appropriate key words and concepts (selecting search terms and using Boolean Operators, etc.)

Select appropriate library research tools for their information need ( Exposure to various electronic databases and the library collection)

Locate existing information from various sources (to use in a course assignment and combine with original thought or analysis to produce new information)

Identify the purpose and audience of potential information sources (popular vs. scholarly, current vs. historical, website analysis)

Become aware of the need to cite sources appropriately
