Books
The Better Photo Guide To Digital Photography by Jim Miotke is the only required text. Additionally, there will be reading assignments linked on the “Schedule” tab of this class Web site.. Click on “details” to view each week’s assignments.

Software
If you are using your own laptop and would like to download software that is critical to your success in this class, consider two free programs. They include Audacity and Soundslides (demo).

You will also be using Photoshop in our own classroom lab. You can purchase Soundslides for only $39.95 or buy Soundslides Plus (our classroom version) for $69.95 – reasonable prices given the value of this program to today’s journalism/media student. Or, you can download a “demo” copy that works pretty much the same a the regular version.

Finally, JourneyEd is a good site for hardware and software needs. Products are often discounted for students.

Recommended Web Viewing
University of Florida instructor Mindy McAdams challenges her students to study good multimedia sites so that her students will have a better idea of what is being done in today’s “online-savvy newsrooms.” I echo her sentiments and offer these sites as well.

Camera-Works (washingtonpost.com)
Multimedia and Photos (The New York Times)
Multimedia (Las Vegas Sun)
MediaStorm: A Multimedia Production Studio
Interactive Narratives: The Best in Multimedia Storytelling and Multimedia
   Journalism.

Take a few minutes to check out each site.
