ADA Frequently Asked Questions

What is the procedure for obtaining accommodations?

Students requesting accommodations are required to submit documentation verifying their disabilities. The documentation must be from a qualified professional not related to the student and should be current (within the last 3 years). The documentation should validate the need for services based upon the student's current level of functioning. It must provide clear and specific evidence a disability exits. Individual "learning styles" or "academic weaknesses/problems" do not by themselves constitute a learning disability. Disability documentation submitted by a student is confidential. The Director of Academic Resources will not release any part of the documentation without the student's informed consent.

Once the student has provided appropriate documentation and met with the Director of Academic Resources, accommodation memos will be provided to him or her on the first day of each semester. It is then the student's responsibility to provide a memo to his or her instructors. The student and professor will discuss the required accommodations, sign and date the memo, and return it to the Director of Academic Resources.
